Polka-Dot-Pretty

November 11, 2009

A year ago I made these little chipboard frames that came with an orange and black Halloween wreath kit. Considering that Halloween is over and that I wanted to be able to use these little frames year round I switched them up and added some cute pink embellishment and voila! the finished product is this cute little Polka-Dot-Pretty. This project took me about 15 minutes to complete and it was super fun to make!

Hope it gives you some inspiration.

P.S. – This would make a cute & simple Christmas gift for someone special.

Ss Tag I couldn’t send Steph’s birthday frame alone so I made this tag to go with it (although my husband is convinced that it is merely a fancy bookmark). I used most of the same materials that I used to make the frame so that they would match.I am completely obsessed with the K&Company stamps my sister bought be for my birthday so I couldn’t resist using the butterfly stamps yet again on this tag. I made the butterflies 3D so that they popped off the page, to give it some added dimension.

There are so many little details that went into making this tag, but they are difficult to see in a measly photo (especially one taken with my iphone). But nonetheless I think it turned out to be rather beautiful, but then again I’m probably not my best critic. Please let me know what you think about this tag at the end of this post by completing a quick and easy poll.

From left to right: (Left) This is a picture of both the tag and the frame that were made as a birthday for my friend Stephanie. (Middle) This is a close-up picture of the butterflies I made in 3D to give the tag an extra “pop”. (Right) This was the finished product of Steph’s gift. I picked matching wrapping paper and a cute little flower embellishment to make it girly and cutesy!

du Jour!

July 8, 2009

I created this frame for one of my best friends birthdays. Although I was tempted to make it in my fav colors, I was able to control myself and complete it in the colors of her wedding.

When searching for the perfect wording to place on the frame I came across this sticker: “du Jour”. I knew the words waere obviously French, but I didn’t know what they meant so I called my husband and asked him to look it up for me and this is what he came up with: “made for a particular day”.

Although it doesn’t have any profound meaning this gift was indeed made for a particular day (Steph’s birthday) and it focuses on a very special day in her life (her wedding day). So I think it fits just fine, plus it looks really pretty, which is the real reason I ended up using it as the main focus.

I hope you like it Mrs. Saavedra and HAPPY BIRTHDAY from your friends in Miami!

du Jour! Detailed Close-Ups:

du Jour! Detail 1

du Jour! Detail 2

Materials: wooden frame (Michael’s); patterned paper (K&Company); floral embellishment (Prima Marketing Inc.); sticker letters (American Crafts); swirl stamp (Autumn Leaves); butterfly stamps (K&Company); brad (Making Memories); ink (Jo-Ann Craft Essentials); paint (Apple Barrel); ribbon (Basic Basic);

My husband says that this is his favorite frame that I have made thus far, but I get the feeling that his judgements are biased (considering that he’s totally in love with me and all). So you be the judge…what do you think?

Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

July 3, 2009

Back in May my friend Kristel celebrated her 24th birthday and I made her a cute little frame (in my fav colors of course) as a gift. I loved it so much that I almost didn’t want to part with it. Thankfully I was able to loosen up my dino-grip off of the gift long enough to package it up, address it, and mail it out, but of course I had to commemorate the occasion. Therefore I created this little comic strip that I cleverly named “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”. Although I no longer get to look at the frame, at least Kristel gets to put it to good use!

Happy two months after your birthday Kristel!

Summer Line: Sassy Scraps

June 3, 2009

My first Etsy product has been created and will be the first of many to fit one of my summer project lines that I playfully named: “Sassy Scraps”. The theme of this line is sophisticated chic, with a sassy frilly flair. To achieve this look all my projects will be done in the colors black, pink, and white.

These gifts will be the most sophisticated and time-consuming one-of-a-kind gifts that I have ever created. They are also my favorite pieces of work because they contain my current favorite colors. Ever since I created that mother’s day frame for my mother-in-law I have been completely obsessed with the color combo. (So obsessed that I am designing my whole scrap space and summer project line after the three colors!) This Sassy Scraps project is an altered frame and is only one of many to come.

I hope you enjoy the new look and consider making it a gift for yourself!

gifts galore!

May 18, 2009

May seems to be full of birthdays!! For the past few weeks I have felt like a little elf during Christmas time, stuck in my tiny workshop preparing gifts for some very special people.

I am glad to say that being a little elf has paid off and I have created some one-of-a-kind creations to celebrate those “not naughty, but nice” people. I am also very thankful to say that both gifts were incredibly scrapfordable! Each frame cost me only $1.00 from Michael’s and I had most of the embellishments lying around my scrap space. But by the look and detail of each frame you would never even guess that they were so cheap! This little spark of creativity has encouraged me to create more little gifts and frames. So stay tuned for more little knick-knacks, but for now enjoy what I’ve got so far.

This first gift was created to celebrate my friend Kristel’s birthday. Since I am currently obsessed with everything Heidi Swapp I couldn’t help but make an all black and pink frame. After making the Mother’s Day frame for my mother-in-law in black, white, and pink I realized just how much I adore that color combination. I love the fact that it looks sophisticated, yet sassy. (The perfect combination for a girl my age!)

The second gift was created for my best friend Ana’s birthday. Ana is one of my most “eclectic” friends so of course she didn’t want just any normal frame; she wanted something completely different. There were only two things she wanted for her birthday gift: a shadow box and Martha Stewart’s Animal die cuts. A strange combination from a strange girl. I went to Michael’s on my search for her request and instead of a shadow box found the $1.00 frame and decided that it would do. I was paranoid that her frame would end up looking like a gift for a four-year-old, but in the end I was surprised to find that I actually liked it more than I expected. It could possibly be a gift for a four-year-old, but it definitely suits Ana and her crazy personality. So in the end it worked out and it’s actually pretty cute.

A yummy treat for someone sweet!

January 8, 2009

Monday was my sister-in-laws birthday and to celebrate she had a small little get together at her house with friends and family. Since our budget is still very tight, I resorted to giving my favorite kind of birthday gifts: homemade ones! Here are a few pictures of the little treats I made for Nadia on her special day.

Nadia's Gifts

I baked some mint chocolate muffins and packaged them in pink tissue paper. I also managed to make a matching pink frame (seen below) in less than 30 minutes.

I didn’t make these cupcakes, but they were so cute that I couldn’t resist putting them on my blog. Nadia worked all day to make this cute cupcake tower and I thought it deserved some praise!
